1. Create Your First Bit
Bits helps you write, organize, and perform stand-up material. Here’s a short path to get going: your first bit, your first set, backup, and a quick tour of the app.
- Open the Material tab (pencil icon).
- Tap the red plus button.
- Add a title and write your first joke or bit. It saves automatically.
You can edit it anytime by tapping it in the list. Use notes (notes icon on the bit) for private reminders; use properties (gear) for length, status, labels, and sets.
2. Create Your First Set
- A set is an ordered list of bits for a performance. Once you have at least one bit, you can create a set.
- From the Material tab, tap the Sets (list) icon at the top, or open the Sets tab from the main navigation if you use that view.
- Create a new set and give it a name. Then add bits to it (e.g. tap Manage and choose bits, or add bits from the set screen). Reorder them in the order you want to perform.
You’ll use this set when you log a show or go On Stage.
3. Turn On Backup (Recommended)
- Open the More tab (gear icon).
- Find the Backup row. If it says “Off” or prompts you to subscribe, tap it and follow the steps to subscribe to Bits. When backup is On, your bits and sets are stored in the cloud and sync across your devices and the web.
That way, if you switch phones or reinstall the app, your material comes back after you sign in.
4. Quick Tour of the Four Tabs
- Material – All your bits. Create, search, sort, and open bits. Switch to Labels or Sets view to filter. This is your writing home.
- Shows – Log performances: pick a set, date, and venue. Use this to go On Stage with the right set and to keep a log of gigs.
- Comedy Gym – Writing progress (today, 7 days, 30 days), daily reminder, Comedy Coach (AI advice), and the Cowriter (AI-assisted bit development). Use it to build a habit and develop new material.
- More – Account, backup, web access, notifications, app icon, words per second, privacy. Also restore purchase and backup issues if something’s wrong.
What to Do Next
- Add a few more bits and put some in your set.
- Try On Stage from the Shows tab with your set (full text, list, or cue cards).
- Optionally turn on the daily reminder in More > Notifications and check Comedy Gym for progress and the Cowriter.
