Where You Set These
Before you go On Stage in Bits, you can choose how your set is shown on screen, whether you’re practicing or performing, and whether to use a timer or transcription. Here’s what each option does.
After you pick a set and tap to enter On Stage, you’ll see a pre–On Stage screen. There you set:
- Practice mode (on or off)
- Display mode (full, list, or cue cards)
- Timer (on or off, and duration if on)
- Transcription (on or off; Pro)
Practice Mode
- On – You’re rehearsing. The app won’t treat this as a live performance (e.g. no live laugh tracking). Good for run-throughs at home.
- Off – You’re performing. Use this when you’re on stage and want the app to support a real set (e.g. set history, optional transcription).
Toggle Practice according to whether you’re rehearsing or doing a real show.
Display Mode
- Full – Shows each bit with its full content (and notes if you choose). Swipe to move between bits and, in performance, you can mark how each bit landed. Best when you want the full text in front of you (e.g. open mics, new material).
- List – Shows a simple list of bit titles. Good when your phone is nearby and you only need a quick reminder of what’s next.
- Cue cards – One bit title at a time in large text. Swipe to go to the next. Minimal and focused; good for staying in the moment and avoiding reading full paragraphs on stage.
Choose the mode that matches your style and how much you want to look at the phone.
Timer
- You can turn a timer on or off for the set.
- When on, you can set the duration (e.g. 5 or 10 minutes). The timer helps you stay within your slot and pace the set.
Use it during rehearsals to hit your time, and on stage if you have a strict slot.
Transcription (Pro)
- With Bits Pro, you can enable transcription for On Stage. The app can capture what you say during the set so you can review it later (e.g. in set history or for set feedback).
- Turn it on only when you’re ready to record; leave it off in practice if you don’t need a transcript.
For more on transcription, see “How to use on-stage transcription in Bits (Pro).”
Quick Reference
- Rehearsing? – Turn Practice on; use Full or List to see your material; use the timer to hit your time.
- Live show? – Turn Practice off; choose Full, List, or Cue cards; use transcription (Pro) if you want a record of the set.
