Where It Works
You can use Markdown in your bit content in Bits. Markdown is a simple way to format text: bold, italics, lists, and more. The app can display this formatting so your bits are easier to read and structure.
- Use Markdown in the main content of a bit (the main text field when you’re editing). The app will interpret standard Markdown syntax and show the formatting when viewing the bit. Notes may or may not support Markdown depending on the app; check the notes screen if you want to use it there.
Common Formatting
- Bold – Wrap text in double asterisks:
**like this**. - Italics – Wrap text in single asterisks:
*like this*. - Lists – Use a dash or number at the start of a line for bullet or numbered lists.
- Line breaks – Use a blank line or two line breaks for a new paragraph.
Exact support (e.g. headers, links) may vary; the in-app Markdown help (e.g. the “?” or info in the editor) lists what Bits supports. Open a bit, tap the Markdown or formatting help icon in the toolbar if you see one, to get the full list.
Why Use It
- Structure – Use bold for punchlines or key phrases so they stand out when you’re reading on stage or in list mode.
- Clarity – Lists and paragraphs make long bits easier to scan and edit.
- Consistency – Once you learn a few rules, you can format all your bits the same way.
Keep your stage content readable: don’t over-format. A few bold words or a short list often help more than heavy formatting.
